Thanks to Shakespeare, witches have been given a very bad rap.   Understand, we do not endorse witches at Healing Leaf LLC but we’re pretty sure they don’t have anything to do with warts.  They do help lead us into our next topics: old wives’ tales, legends and treatments of warts.

Old wives’ tales: We’ve covered toads and witches but there was a time when things were more sinister than they are today.  Back in Salem, Mass., in the days of the witch hunts, warts were used as testimony to convict innocent people for witchcraft.   Negative connotations, suspicions and fear can still plague wart sufferers today.

Legends surrounding warts: Even the fairy tales we grew up on and still read to our children vilified witches and splattered their faces with hairy warts.   Remember the old crone who gave Snow White the poisoned apple?  The wicked sorcerers and witches who crept through the pages of Sleeping Beauty, Beauty and the Beast and other beloved stories? 

Treatments.   Oddly some of the treatments can sound like legends and old wives’ tales.   Some people advocate covering the wart with duct tape for several days (does this stuff come in coordinating colors?) and then ripping it off quickly.  Well…ouch!  Others favor rubbing the wart with dandelions, garlic, or potatoes and well…a list too long to print. There’s also turpentine, kerosene and pine tar.   Occasionally these things work.  But like we said earlier, warts will eventually disappear without the tape, petroleum products or groceries.   

Genital warts?  At this time, Healing Leaf LLC does not make a genital wart product.  We do NOT recommend using Eye of Newt® on genital warts as it will sting and burn.

Precautions and common sense:  Warts ARE contagious. If you live with someone who has them you should not share towels, bedding or clothing.  Treat the warts quickly so you can minimize chances of spreading them to others.  Instruct the person with warts not to pick at them or scratch and to keep the wart clean.  If you and your family are wart-free, PLEASE wear water shoes or other footwear whenever you visit pools, locker rooms and water parks.
